Area Overview - Rehoboth Beach
Located just two hours from Washington, Baltimore
and Philadelphia, Rehoboth offers beautiful beaches
and small-town character combined with great
dining, nonstop nightlife and terrific shopping
at over 140 tax-free outlet stores. In addition
to the sun, sand and surf, sports-minded visitors
will find hiking, windsurfing, kayaking and deep-sea
fishing available at the Broadkill Beach area.
Serious golfers can test their skills at the
Kings Creek Country Club or at one of the many
other 18-hole courses nearby.
No stay would be
complete without a stroll along the mile-long
woodenboardwalk (circa
1873). Among the last of its kind on the east
coast, the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk was named Best
of America by “Readers Digest” in
May 2006. Perfect for sitting, jogging, biking
or old-fashioned family fun at the many arcades
and amusements, the boardwalk stretches
along the ocean on either side of Rehoboth
Avenue. “The Avenue” acts as the
town’s colorful
main drag, where you’ll find souvenir and
t-shirt shops, upscale
boutiques, and galleries in
abundance. Many
of the area’s more than 70 restaurants
and nightspots are
located here too. Thrashers (famous) French Fries
stands, burger huts and pizzerias mix among the
Caribbean-style cafes, Mexican restaurants and
gourmet dining spots. After dark, the action
shifts to the club scene with something for every
age and taste.
A traditional vacation spot for families, Delaware’s
largest and liveliest beach also has become a favorite
among gay and lesbian travelers. More than just
a summer destination, Rehoboth plays host to numerous
annual off-season festivals, including the Autumn
Jazz Festival, the Chocolate Festival,
and the Rehoboth Film Festival in
November, which screens about 100 of the year's
best independent films.
