Fees/Admission: $50-$75

The O’Jays are touring history, a connection to an era and a sound that formed the soundtrack for the lives of several generations. The O’Jays are still hitting the road with the same electrifying energy they’ve had for over 50 years. Walter Williams and Eddie Levert first met when they were the ages of 6 and 7 respectively. As teenagers in Canton, Ohio, they formed a band originally consisting of Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, William Powell, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles. In 1963, the band took the name “”The O’Jays”” in tribute to Cleveland radio disc jockey Eddie O’Jay. Several members have changed, but the core, original lead singers Eddie Levert and Walter Williams, continue to front the group.

The O’Jays scored the first No. 1 and million-seller with “Backstabbers” and subsequently, they succeeded with various chart-topping pop and R&B singles including “Love Train,” “Put Your Hands Together,” “For The Love of Money,” “I Love Music,” “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby (Sweet, Tender, Love),” “Livin’ For The Weekend” and “Use Ta Be My Girl.” This success propelled The O’Jays to be the first black vocal group to perform in arenas throughout America during the ’70s and ’80s.

The O’Jays were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005 and honored with BET’s Life Time Achievement Award in 2009. In 2013, they were inducted into The Official R&B Music Hall of Fame. Throughout their career The O’Jays have achieved 10 Gold albums, 9 Platinum albums and 10 No. 1 hits. Eddie Levert Sr., Walter Williams Sr. and Eric Nolan Grant, who joined the group in 1995, continue to thrill fans today.

By the time he released his eponymous debut album in 2012, he had captured a wide fan base across the US with his fusion of alternative country and rock and roll.

Granger Smith is a country music singer/songwriter who goes by the moniker Earl Dibbles Jr. Born in Dallas and based in Nashville, he released his debut album, “Waiting on Forever,” in 1998 and slowly developed a following with his down-home style. “Blow Up the Moon” is the first collaborative album that Blues Traveler has ever made. Prior to these sessions, it was rare for the band to have someone else perform on their songs and even more rare to have anyone outside the band write with them. This process was a unique and successful experience for each of these artists who each found new depths and energy in their writing and performance. “Blow Up The Moon” is an exciting collaboration featuring a range of artists across the spectrum, representing country, pop, reggae and hip-hop.

The Wallflowers & Better Than Ezra

July 12, 2017

The Freeman Stage at Bayside
31750 Lake View Drive
Selbyville, DE 19975
302-436-3015

Fees/Admission: $54-$69

The Wallflowers formed in 1989, and in 1992 released their classic self-titled debut album, which included songs like “For the Life of Me,” and “Another One in the Dark.” From there they skyrocketed with 1996’s “Bringing Down the Horse,” which went quadruple platinum, won two Grammys, and was praised by everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Tom Petty. It produced famous hits like “6th Avenue Heartache,” “One Headlight,” “Three Marlenas,” and “The Difference.”

The Wallflowers went on to release three more records between 2000 and 2005, absolute rock and roll perfection, and more radio smashes like “Murder 101”, a duet with Elvis Costello, “Sleepwalker,” and “Here He Comes.” When it comes to alternative rock music, it’s no surprise that the Wallflowers absolutely dominated the scene during their prime.

Before their omnipresent 1995 single “Good” hit No. 1, before their debut album “Deluxe” went double-platinum, before popular shows such as Desperate Housewives licensed their song “Juicy,” before Taylor Swift attested to their timeless appeal by covering their track “Breathless” — New Orleans’ Better Than Ezra was a pop-rock act paying its dues, traveling from town to town in a ramshackle van. Over two decades after the band formed, that vigilance still resonates strongly with the trio, who were finally rewarded after seven years of stubbornly chasing their dreams. Though they were told countless times by managers and A&R reps to throw in the towel, “Good” — a joyous anthem about pulling the plug on a relationship — silenced skeptics. Better Than Ezra has always possessed an uncanny ability to deliver a sticky melody. It just took time for the world to figure this out.

This performance will offer limited Premium Assigned Seating tickets and General Admission tickets. Tickets are required for all patrons, including infants and toddlers.

Gary Clark Jr. LIVE: North America 2017

July 15, 2017
7:00 PM – 10:00 PM EDT

The Freeman Stage at Bayside
31750 Lake View Drive
Selbyville, DE 19975
302-436-3015

Fees/Admission: $40-$65

Ever since 2010, when Gary Clark Jr. wowed audiences with electrifying live sets everywhere from the Crossroads Festival to Hollywood’s historic Hotel Café, his modus operandi has remained crystal clear: “I listen to everything … so I want to play everything.” The revelation that is the Austin-born virtuoso guitarist, vocalist and songwriter finds him just as much an amalgamation of his myriad influences and inspirations. Anyone who gravitated towards Clark’s, 2011’s “Bright Lights” EP, heard both the evolution of rock and roll and a savior of blues. The following year’s full-length debut, “Blak And Blu,” illuminated Clark’s vast spectrum — “Please Come Home” is reminiscent of Smokey Robinson, while “Ain’t Messin’ Around” recalls Sly and the Family Stone. 2014’s double disc” Gary Clark Jr – Live” projected Clark into 3D by adding palpable dimension and transcendent power — songs soared and drifted from the epic, psychedelic-blues of “When My Train Comes In” to his anthemic, hip-hop, rock-crunch calling card, “Bright Lights,” all the way down to the deep, dark, muddy water of “When The Sun Goes Down.”

After spending five years transforming audiences from the California desert to the London metropolis, acquiring fans like Barack Obama, Keith Richards, Alicia Keys and Beyoncé along the way, the 6-foot-4 Texan needed to spread his musical wings and spectrum hues wider. This exhibition was Clark’s second full-length worldwide album, “The Story of Sonny Boy Slim,” which was released in September 2015. What this body of work accomplishes that its predecessors hadn’t is spotlight Gary Clark Jr., the artist first — as producer, singer-songwriter — and string master second. His textured voice and eyes-wide writing hug listeners in with a disregard for time period other than the future.

Assigned seating events require tickets for all patrons, including infants and toddlers. No re-entry allowed. Seats are provided.

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Kevin MaC wins audiences over immediately as he explodes on stage with his exuberant personality. Although his roots are in country music and his original music is decidedly country, Kevin is far from a one-trick pony; he loves to surprise audiences with his own spin on hip hop, classic rock and sometimes even a boy band hit or two. Equally at home performing any of these genres, Kevin coined the term “”Southern Swag”” to describe his unique brand of music. Kevin has opened for industry heavy hitters Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, Phil Vassar, Darryl Worley, Trace Adkins, Colt Ford, LeAnn Rimes, Kip Moore, The Band Perry, Missy Elliott, Blacksreet, T. Mills, Timbaland, J. Cole and Ashanti. He re-recorded a “Southern Swag” version of the 1990s hit “No Diggity” with mega producer Teddy Riley, and he has written and collaborated with some of the most accomplished songwriters in the business, including hitmakers for Rascal Flatts, Diamond Rio, Beyonce and Britney Spears. In 2014, Kevin signed his first major record publishing deal with mega producer Dr. Luke’s Prescription songs based out of Los Angeles, California. Before a single note leaves his lips or one chord is strummed from his acoustic guitar, Kevin Mac convinces you to love him. His style is refreshing and honest.

HUNTER HAYES

July 28, 2017
7:00 PM – 10:00 PM EDT

The Freeman Stage at Bayside
31750 Lake View Drive
Selbyville, DE 19975
302-436-3015

Fees/Admission: $35-$65

For Hunter Hayes, complacency is the enemy. After being nominated for a handful of Grammy Awards, snagging a collection of CMA’s and touring the world behind a pair of critically-acclaimed albums, it would be far too easy for the revered singer-songwriter and top-notch musician to rest on his laurels. But Hayes wants more. “I had to get in the mindset of I’m starting over,” the 25-year-old says boldly of a rigorous two-year process during which he wrote more than 100 songs; made a Nashville studio his personal playground and, most important for his development as a category-defying artist and musical innovator, flipped convention on its head.

The initial returns on Hayes’ focused pursuit of the bold and new are a trio of songs released direct to fans via his social media: “Yesterday’s Song,” “Amen,” and “Young Blood.” Written with Barry Dean and Martin Johnson and produced with Dann Huff, “Yesterday’s Song” is a sonically boisterous stunner; a rollicking, breakneck rock jam that, at its lyrical core, is a no-nonsense breakup song — a kiss-off that doubles as “a joyous celebration” of moving on and never looking back. “It’s like ‘I’m gone and going so fast you’ll never catch me!'” he says of the song’s flavor, adding that breakup songs like it, off “life-changing” albums like Rascal Flatts’ Me and My Gang, Adele’s 21 or John Mayer’s Continuum, have long been essential to his life.

“Amen” and “Young Blood” also mark exciting new territory for the singer. The former finds Hayes embracing his spiritual side without neglecting his big-throated pop melody, and is what the singer describes as “a lonely man’s prayer.” “Young Blood” might very well be Hayes’ most full-throttle guitar assault yet, not to mention his most lyrically mature. The song, written with Solomon and Lauren Olds, details what Hayes calls “the spark and firework of a new exciting relationship” and finds Hayes embracing his reckless side. The song was also entirely self-produced by the musician.

Whereas previous albums like his Double Platinum-certified, self-titled 2011 debut and 2014’s “Storyline” were cut in relatively rapid succession, Hayes had the freedom this go-round to explore every musical avenue of his intrigue. Initially moving out to the country and living at his friend’s house, he dove headfirst into the writing process. Hayes recognizes such increased hands-on creativity and a newfound wizened humility is essential for any top-notch artist.
